Boutique and gifts shop from the Magdalen Islands

When we own a boutique, an art gallery and a workshop like us at La Méduse, we try to find the right words to describe what we are as a business and although the words “boutique", “gift” and “souvenir shop” do not stick to us, we want to say loud and clear that, we too offer beautiful gifts and beautiful souvenirs from the Magdalen Islands.

But in our vision, the memories are those that visitors created as part of our introductory glassblowing workshops, they are also the memories that families have kept of authentic contact during our guided tours and the sharing of our knowledge with them in a unique atmosphere!

Gifts are all our handcrafted glass creations, which become a decoration in the house or an object used every day in the kitchen. It is also our jellyfish which fascinate because we do not know how they ended up in a glass ball and because they forever remind us of a visit to the Magdalen Islands.

And you, what crosses your mind when you hear the words “gift shop” or “souvenir shop”? Are you, like us, with images of objects made in China and resold with an inscription of the destination as “local product”? Yes, we are not alone with these images in mind!

Although in the new tourist reality and in the love of real local purchasing “gift shop” or “souvenir shop” probably no longer come with these images, they still left an impression on us!

So in our business philosophy and in our choices, we decided in full conscience to offer authentic creations to visitors and unique art objects made on site! We still refuse the label “gift shop” or “souvenir shop”, because like many Magdalen businesses, we are much MORE than that!
